St. George North Barbados Labour Party (BLP) candidate and union boss Toni Moore

Moore assures she will take advantage of opportunities

St. George North Barbados Labour Party (BLP) candidate and union boss Toni Moore is adamant she will walk away from political life if improvements are not made for workers.

The head of the Barbados Workers’ Union told those gathered at Roach Village on Thursday night that before agreeing to enter the political arena on a BLP ticket, she made it clear to the Prime Minister “if I come in and things do not work out, the same door that was my entrance will become my exit”.

“I want you to be assured of one thing if nothing else, that if it is that I do not perceive that I can achieve for you or that I am achieving for you, I will not wait for you to dismiss me. I know what it is to take my own exit and that is my commitment to you because I believe that a tall order has been set,” she stressed.

Saying she had made no promises while on the campaign trail, she nevertheless assured constituents that over the three weeks left before the polls, a number of expectations held for some time will be met.

“It is not because it is an election and there is an election hype and they are trying to buy people’s votes but I want you to understand that for 16 years I have been involved in the art of negotiations. I understand what election time means. You are not only seeing Toni Moore, you are seeing members of Parliament from every constituency across Barbados coming to you and asking for a vote for Toni Moore. So if you were a negotiator, what would you do if people are asking for street lights, if people are asking for job opportunities, if people are asking for certain projects to start? If people are asking for bus shelters would you wait until an election to see those things happening? You strike the iron while it is hot!” she stated. (JMB)
