Warrens holds off Deacons to win

Pan American Life Insurance Warrens Sports Club was pushed to five set to defeat Flow Deacons in the feature game on Monday of the Goddard Enterprises Division One League Volleyball tournament at the Kensington Oval Bond.

Warrens won the first set easily as Deacons starting six look out of sorts and their coach was forced to change almost the entire line- up except for the setter and one other player late in the first set.

However, it was too late to save the set as Warrens ran away 25-19.

In the second set the game looked much closer initially with the coach keeping with the bench player on the court, while most of the starters looked on from the sidelines.
However after trailing by only one point in the middle of the set 16-15, Deacons started to slip away and Warrens once again won 25-17 and moved one step closer to the match victory.

Despite this, Deacons looked as though they were getting closer with each passing set and the third and fourth set belonged to them as they moved from 11-11 to run away with the 25-15 victory and then 25-17.

The deciding set saw both teams trading points and when the teams switched sides there was only a one point lead for Warrens.

The two traded points and errors until Warrens moved away 13-10, which was countered by Deacons who closed to within one point 13-12.

However, the game was sealed by two errors by Deacons, one at the net as the ball was being sent over by Warrens and then with Talya Lane serving for the match she picked out Deacons Julia Lewis who could not handle the serve.

Warrens won the match 25-19, 25-17, 15-25, 17-25, 15-12. (CG)
