Orange 3 Pinelands pose with their BABA Summer Jam third-place medals.

U-19 Pinelands finish third

Orange 3 Pinelands took home the third-place spot after they took down the Pan American International Insurance Warrens Sports Club in overtime in a thrilling third-place game at the Barbados Community College.

Taking the victory 81-78, the Pine had to come from behind in the final quarter of the game to force overtime and to earn their way to the No. 3 spot. With Warrens up 35-31 at the half, talented player Keserian Adams was key in the comeback for Pinelands, getting hot in the fourth and scoring 13 of his game-high 20 points. Adams was the offensive force behind the comeback, but it was little Deroni Hurley who provided the defensive prowess, which really got Pinelands back into the game.

Hurley’s court sense was off the scale coming onto the end of the game. He copped four steals at the end of the game, picking off the passes with ease and creating more possessions for his team as the clock wound down. He was also the player who scored the last four points in regular time to tie the game. Hurley took the momentum into overtime and scored four of the team’s nine points in that period. Sharp shooter Rasheed Maynard put Warrens to bed, hitting his fourth three-pointer of the night as time wound down to give the Pine the win.

Warrens had a good game till the last quarter where ball control was lacking and the costly turnovers lost them the game at the end. Adams top-scored for the Pine with Hurley finishing with 18 and Maynard 16. Karlos Greenidge also had 13 points and Dominic Jervis 7 for the winners. Warrens had four players in double figures. Brandon Hope caught fire late and played an outstanding second half to score 12 of his team-high 17 points. Khamal Boyce tallied 15 points while Jarad Grant had 13. Forward Jonathan Dottin started hot for Warrens with 14 first half points, but failed to score in the second half of the game. (AS)
