St. John Constituency Council to report on its stewardship this month

THE St. John Constituency Council will be giving an account of its stewardship over the past year this month, on September 18.

Chairman of the St. John Constituency Council, Richard Harris, has noted that the meeting is scheduled to take place at 4 p.m.

in the amphitheatre, located within the David Thompson Health and Social Services at Glebe Land, St. John.

“We will make our report and we will give an account of our stewardship over the year. (Constituents) will also have the opportunity to give suggestions and make recommendations,” Harris indicated.

Stating that he is proud of the work done by the Council so far, the Chairman however pointed out that there is always room for improvement.

He meanwhile outlined a number of programmes and initiatives carried out by the Council, for the benefit of the people of St. John.

“The Council would have worked on a programme in terms of helping young persons to be better prepared for work. That programme looked at interviewing skills and how to dress for the world of work and how to carry yourself. That was one of the programmes that was initiated,” Harris revealed.

“We also had an award ceremony for 50 persons in St. John. We awarded them for their outstanding contributions to St. John and not only to St. John, but to Barbados as well. You may not know, but in St. John, we are blessed with a quantity of persons who have done extraordinary work in St. John and beyond,” Harris stated.

He meanwhile noted that the Council is in discussion with the Community Development Department to bring on stream a computer programme for persons in the constituency.

“Around the ending of the last Council’s life, a survey was done in St. John and in that survey, needs were outlined as computer programming and a range of other activities that we would want implemented. So we would have entered into discussion with the Community Development Department, so as to facilitate this, because they are the resource agency to help us implement the programme. So work is ongoing on that,” Harris said. (RSM)
