Law students show off businesses

Students of the Barbados Community College had the privilege of displaying their business ideas for everyone to see recently as they tried to score their final grade for Tutor, Laticia Bourne’s Business Law class.

Speaking to Bourne, she told the media, “Students are undertaking a Business Law course and as a part of that course, we have a trade show. The students would have learnt all of the legal background in relation to forming a business such as NIS and VAT and so on, and so what they do at the end of it is a written project and they culminate that by showcasing the particular business that they developed.”

“The students are doing a fantastic job,” stated Bourne. “I have a young man who had a chicken business. He said he cannot bring the chickens live but he will bring a finished product.”

An excited Bourne went on to explain, “Just over 20 students participated in the show and their businesses ranged from, cosmetics to web design to pastry-making and pillow-making. “There are food businesses; the ladies like to do lots of makeup and hair, so you will see a lot of those and I have some students as well who are doing online businesses.

One young man has a global online store and he is sure that he will actually do this, he said give him three years and he will get it off the ground!”

One student described the trade show as being the fun part of the project and she had been looking forward to displaying her product from the time it was announced. Another noted that the project is making him consider pursuing his web design project later in life.
