Golden Soca event launches at BARP Office

It’s more than a fete – it’s a celebration! That was the main message at the recent launch at the BARP office of Golden Soca, a ‘two shows for the price of one’ event which takes place at Plantation Garden Theatre on 6th August.
BARP President, Ed Bushell said he was particularly pleased to have the opportunity to collaborate with Golden Soca Productions on this event. “Last year, BARP did not have a fete and we were bombarded all year by members who wanted to know when we were next going to have a fete,”said Bushell. “So we saw this opportunity as an excellent opportunity to satisfy those of our members who are restless for good music”
In the first of two shows for the night, Golden Soca will ‘bring back the ole time days’ at 6pm, with veteran artistes returning to the stage, including Romeo, Pompey, and Desmond Burke, with a special guest appearance by Maizie Barker Welch as Mabel in a sketch from Dumplings in the Stew, as well 76-year old Ken Farrell and his Spectac Line Dance troupe.
A Lime with Gerald B will then be followed by the ‘main event’ at 8pm, when the top performers of 2016 will take to the stage including Red Plastic Bag, Grynner, Ras Iley, Biggie Irie and Li’l Rick, with the younger element represented by Nikita, Coopah Dan and Marvay.
Speaking at the launch, Ras Iley remarked on how well the more mature audiences respond to vintage calypso and know and recognise the music that has helped Barbados become a leader in the calypso arena.
“I love my culture, my heritage”, said Sweet Soca finalist Marvay, another guest at the launch, “This is a quality event and I appreciate being allowed to be part of the show.”
